Resident Shoots Intruder in Stickney Home Invasion: Cops
Resident and masked gunman exchange gunfire when intruders break into home, Cook County Sheriff's Police say.

COOK COUNTY, IL – Two would-be home invaders got a surprise on Wednesday afternoon after a resident shot one of masked gunman in unincorporated Stickney. The resident in the home was also shot, Cook County Sheriff’s Police said.
Alberto Manzo, 18, and his alleged 19-year-old accomplice Carlos Tapia, both of Chicago, were both charged with home invasion. Sheriff’s police said the two burst into a residence Wednesday morning in the 4800 block of South Lockwood in unincorporated Stickney. Manzo and Tapia -- both wearing masks -- were said to be in search of drugs and money.
Inside the residence, police said Tapia pointed an assault-style weapon at the 20-year-old resident. The resident, who was also armed, shot Tapia multiple times. Tapia returned fire shooting 20-year-old resident, who was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The resident’s 17-year-old brother jumped out a window to escape the alleged gunmen. He was not seriously injured. Manzo dropped off the injured Tapia at an area hospital, where Tapiza is listed in critical condition, according to investigators.
Manzo was denied bail Friday during his court appearance at the Bridgeview Courthouse. Tapia who remains hospitalized is also being held without bond.
