Shooting On I-57 Near Halsted Brings Slew Of Helicopters

Multiple reports indicate two people were shot on Interstate 57 near 99th and Halsted Tuesday afternoon.

CHICAGO, IL - Reports that two people were shot on Interstate 57 near 99th and Halsted late Tuesday afternoon caused a significant helicopter presence on the Southwest Side of the city and in suburban Evergreen Park. Residents reported seeing both police and news helicopters in the area after 4:30 p.m., when media reports indicate that two people in a Chevrolet sedan were shot while heading south on I-57.

The shooting is believed to have taken place on the shoulder of the roadway, according to an ABC-7 report. That's where police had crime scene tape set up. City of Chicago police and fire officials have both confirmed the shooting incident according to the Chicago Tribune, although the highway location is in the jurisdiction of Illinois State Police.

Both victims arrived at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park shortly before 5 p.m. An Evergreen Park woman said the helicopter activity was centered in that location.
