South Side Town Hall To Pick CPD Superintendent Set For Kennedy HS
South Side residents can weigh in on the process to pick new Chicago police superintendent Wednesday, May 10, at Kennedy High School.

CHICAGO — The next South Side forum for community input into the selection of the next Chicago police superintendent will take place Wednesday, May 10, at John F. Kennedy High School, 6325 W. 56th St., Chicago. The session will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., doors open at 5:30 p.m.
The Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability has been conducting community forums as an essential part of the search for a new police superintendent. Chicagoans are invited and encouraged to share their views on the qualifications and qualities they’d like to see in Chicago’s next top cop.
According to Chicago Sun-Times reports, the civilian police oversight committee hired the search firm Public Sector, which bills itself as a "premier, boutique-style, national search firm focused solely on recruiting top police executives for our clients." In addition to Chicago, Public Sector is leading searches for police chiefs in Louisville, KY, and Forest Grove, OR. Past clients include Dallas and Nashville, TN, and Boulder, CO, according to the firm’s website.

Interim Superintendent Eric Carter, announced his retirement last month to take effect May 15, the day Mayor-elect Brandon Johnson is inaugurated, so Johnson can name his own interim superintendent while the search for a permanent replacement continues. Community members have expressed a preference that the next superintendent be promoted from within the ranks.
