Suspected Car Thief Shot and Killed by Chicago Police
An 18-year-old man is dead after sideswiping a squad car on the South Side Thursday night, police said.

CHICAGO, IL - An 18-year-old man accused of driving a stolen Jaguar and striking a police car was shot and killed by police late Thursday evening.
Police stopped the man in the 7400 block of S Merrill Avenue in the city’s South Shore neighborhood around 7:30 p.m. when the suspect fled, striking both a squad car and a citizen’s parked car in the process, according to a Chicago Tribune report. A number of police officers were injured in the incident. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening.
At least two police officers fired their weapons at the 18-year-old. One officer on scene continued to follow the man, who was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead according to a preliminary police statement. An alleged accomplice, a 17-year-old boy, was taken into custody.

The Jaguar S-type convertible was reported stolen earlier in the day from west suburban Bolingbrook.
The case awaits an official police statement and an investigation by the city’s Independent Police Review Authority. The officers involved will be placed on mandatory administrative leave for at least 30 days.
