Teen Found In Iowa, Charged In July Slaying Of South Side Mail Carrier
Chicago police and U.S. Marshals arrested a 15-year-old boy in Cedar Rapids and charged in the shooting death of Octavia Redmond, 48.

CHICAGO — A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in Iowa and charged in the shooting death of an on-duty mail carrier in July, Chicago police said.
Octavia Redmond, 48, was delivering mail in the West Pullman neighborhood the morning of July 19 when she was shot and killed in the 12100 block of South Harvard Avenue. Police said an unknown male approached the mail carrier while she was standing in front of a home and shot multiple times.
The shooter then fled in a white SUV that headed westbound along 121st Street, police said.

Redmond had worked for the U.S. Postal Service for five years. The postal inspector offered a $250,000 reward for information leading to the alleged shooter. She was well liked by the people on her route.

Chicago police and members of the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested the 15-year-old in Cedar Rapids, Ia., in the 800 block of Walford Road. The arrest came following a months-long investigation, in which the teen was identified as a suspect.
The teen has been extradited to Chicago and charged with first-degree murder. Chicago police do not believe the 15-year-old acted alone.
