CHICAGO, IL - A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed while he was helping his stepfather deliver newspapers on the Southwest Side of Chicago Sunday morning. Brian Jasso was pronounced dead shortly before 7 a.m. in what is considered by police as a possible case of mistaken identity, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Jasso sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head from an offender in a white vehicle near 47th and Leamington in the LeClaire Courts neighborhood. The car the offender was in rear ended the car the victim was in right before the shots were fired as both were headed west on 47th Street, police said.

The area has been the site of a gang war between two Hispanic gangs but Jasso had no documented gang affiliation. The Tribune reported that he was helping his stepfather deliver several newspapers that morning.
