White Sox to Make History with All-Garcia Outfield

The Chicago White Sox will make history Friday night when they start three men with the same last name in the outfield against the Twins.

CHICAGO, IL - While professional baseball has been played in America for nearly 150 years, there's always something that happens for the first time.

Tonight, the Chicago White Sox will make history with their starting outfield. Willy Garcia, Avisail Garcia and Leury Garcia will be the first outfield trio to all share the same last name when the White Sox take the field against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field in Minnesota tonight.

The Elias Sports Bureau has confirmed this will indeed be the first time a team started three outfielders with the same last name in major-league history, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The team recently brought up Willy Garcia from the minors, inserting him in the lineup tonight.

The only other time a team featured three outfielders with the same last name in a game came in 1963 when the San Francisco Giants played Felipe, Jesus and Matty Alou for three games. All three Alous did not start together in any of the games, however.
