Jurors rejected her false arrest and malicious prosecution claims but held one officer and the city liable for detention. City officials say they're reviewing options, including a possible appeal.
2. Springfield Fire Department honors 3 firefighters with Hometown Hero Award (wandtv.com) — Springfield firefighters were honored with the Hometown Hero Award after rescuing a woman trapped in a third-story apartment fire earlier this year. The crew's quick ladder rescue and decisive teamwork saved her life, and she's expected to fully recover. Department leaders say their actions embody the courage and split-second judgment Springfield residents count on in an emergency.
3. Springfield man accused of battery, threatening to kill woman, 4 kids (wcia.com) — A Springfield man is jailed in Sangamon County after deputies say he beat, choked, and threatened to kill a woman and four children during a terrifying incident earlier this month. According to a deputy's report, officers forced entry after hearing the woman crying and later found visible injuries on her neck. The suspect faces multiple felony counts and returns to court October 1.
4. Family farm keeps markets in region stocked from spring to fall (myjournalcourier.com) — A Scott County family farm helps keep Springfield's Old Capitol Farmers Market stocked with lettuces, greens, tomatoes, peppers, and more from spring through late fall. Owner Michael Meyer has expanded his grandparents' small produce stand into a larger operation that supplies Springfield shoppers, local restaurants, and regional food banks while emphasizing quality, fair wages, and a strong family-centered workplace.
