Gov. Rauner Wants Term Limits Added To Ballot
Gov. Bruce Rauner is pushing to add term limits for Illinois legislators on November's ballot. Here's what's standing in the way.

SPRINGFIELD, IL — Gov. Bruce Rauner isn't backing down when it comes to getting his term limit proposal on the November ballot, despite Monday's upcoming deadline. According to the Rock Island Dispatch-Argus, that's the deadline for Illinois lawmakers to approve an amendment that would limit lawmakers' terms in Springfield.
Dispatch-Argus reports Gov. Rauner said Thursday that he's urging residents to call their legislators and ask them to support a referendum that would give Illinois residents the chance to vote on these term limits.
Although Monday is the deadline, WJOL says lawmakers aren't expected back at the state capitol until Tuesday, making an on-time vote unlikely.

The Dispatch-Argus notes that according to the website for the General Assembly, ilga.gov, lawmakers are taking a four-day weekend, so the the only way Rauner may be able to get the votes in is by calling a special session.
A Paul Simon Public Policy poll from two years ago had 80 percent of residents supporting term limits.
