Harold Visser: Springfield is coming for your campfires
Visser calls for opposition to campfire registration bill

Carbondale, IL — Harold J. Visser, candidate for State Representative in the 118th District, is calling on the Legislature to reject outrageous legislation aimed at requiring permits for campfires.
Recently introduced legislation (House Bill 4459) mandates that anyone engaging in open burning, including recreational campfires, must obtain a permit and pay a fee of up to $5.
Under the bill, counties and municipalities would be able to create their own burn-permit regulations and establish an online platform for residents to access local requirements. The bill would impose hefty fines, with penalties of up to $100,000 for burning without a local permit and up to $500,000 for burning on designated “no-burn days” without a permit.

“This is outrageous,” Visser said. “Lawmakers need to focus on reducing spending, lowering taxes and creating a better environment to attract new jobs and opportunities. No wonder Illinois continues to lose population. Our leaders are more focused on virtual signaling nonsense and not on the issues important to working people. This is government overreach at its finest. We need common-sense leadership. People should be free to enjoy a campfire with their friends and family without the government being involved. Illinois residents deserve better.
