Illinois Awarded Nearly $44 Million In Fight Against Opioids
Illinois gets nearly $44 million after HHS awards more than $1 billion across the U.S. to help fight the national opioid crisis.

ACROSS ILLINOIS β The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced this week Illinois has been awarded nearly $44 million as part of a federal grant to help advance in the fight against opioid abuse and continue making progress, according to the department. HHS awarded more than $1 billion throughout the country, as the department said new data they recently unveiled suggests efforts are allowing signs of progress nationally.
The awards, including the millions for Illinois, support HHS's Five-Point Opioid Strategy, which was launched in 2017 and enhanced by this week's additional funding, which Secretary Alex Azar said will build on progress we have seen in tackling this epidemic through empowering communities and families on the frontlines," HHS website said.
