Illinois Names April 2 Pay Equity Day
Pay Equity Day helps highlight the wage gap between men and women in Illinois.
SPRINGFIELD -- It’s not just Election Day in Illinois. It’s also a day to focus on the wage gap between men and women.
The Illinois House voted today for House Resolution 85, which creates Pay Equity Day in Illinois.
Rep. Anna Moeller, D-Elgin, presented the resolution today on the House floor. She noted Pay Equity Day will “raise awareness and illustrate the gap between men’s and women’s wages,” because April 2 represents how far into the 2019 calendar women have to work to earn as much as a man did in 2018.

Rep. Moeller is also working to close the wage equity gap through House Bill 834, which has passed the Illinois House and is now in the Senate. It limits employers’ ability to ask applicants about their previous wage history.
