Local Businesses Tee Up to Fight Lung Disease

Local businesses like Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, Ameren Illinois and U.S. Bank are among many local sponsors for the Springfield Golf Classic, the American Lung Association announced today.

“Lung disease affects 1.5 million people in Illinois,” said Monica Guerrant, special events manager for the Lung Association. “Our local sponsors support our efforts to further lung disease research, fund local educational programs and advocacy efforts, and fight lung disease together.”

On June 18, individuals and foursomes will compete in the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois Corporate Cup and the Golf Classic Scramble at the Illini Country Club where 90 percent of proceeds will go back to the Lung Association.

“Over the years, the Springfield Golf Classic has raised more than $1.5 million to help fight lung disease,” said Scott Alexander, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois and Corporate Cup Chair. “It’s an event that we not only look forward to playing in but are honored to be a part of to help support the Lung Association in improving the lives of our neighbors.”
