And The 'Worst Republican Governor In America' Is...
Conservative magazine National Review singled out Illinois governor Bruce Rauner for signing a bill expanding abortion coverage.

SPRINGFIELD, IL — Bruce Rauner is the worst Republican governor in America, according to conservative magazine National Review. The publication made the declaration in its December issue, calling Rauner out for his decision to sign legislation that allows Medicaid to be used to cover abortions.
The article says the bill "may be America’s most radical abortion-funding law," calling the action a "betrayal" of Republican voters and noting that the GOP governor previously promised to veto it.
National Review also took a swipe at a recent Rauner campaign ad, which shows him wearing a leather jacket as he rides a motorcycle throughout Illinois. In the video, National Review adds, Rauner says in a voiceover that he "crisscrossed our state, looked people in the eye, and promised to fight business as usual," saying that the boast came a month after Cardinal Blase Cupich accused him of breaking his word and the Chicago Sun-Times ran a photo of the governor with the headline "Benedict Rauner."

Rauner took office in 2015 after defeating incumbent Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn. Several high-profile Democrats, including billionaire J.B. Pritzker and Chris Kennedy, have announced they intend to run in the primary in the hopes of ousting Rauner in 2018.
