Rauner Signs 'Red Flag' Gun Law
Gov. Rauner also signed a law that would extend a 72-hour hold on all guns.

SPRINGFIELD, IL — Gov. Bruce Rauner on Monday signed a new law to keep firearms away from those who may use them to commit acts of violence against themselves or others. Rauner announced the news on social media, saying the "red flag” law, known as the Lethal Violence Order of Protection Act, gives law enforcement and family members the chance to prove in court that a person in possession of guns is suffering from mental health issues and is a threat.
The new legislation allows courts to prohibit gun possession or purchase through what Rauner calls emergency civil restraining orders.
