Rep. Murphy Responds to Governor’s Modified Stay at Home Order
State Representative Mike Murphy (R-Springfield) issued the following statement in response to the modified order.

Following today’s announcement by Governor JB Pritzker that a modified version of his stay at home order will be extended through May; State Representative Mike Murphy (R-Springfield) issued the following statement:
“Today’s announcement by the Governor is undoubtedly a hard pill for most of us to swallow,” said Murphy. “On the one hand, I’m glad he listened to some of the suggestions we in the legislature have been making by moving to re-open state parks and allow for more much needed outdoor activities. Likewise with allowing garden centers and more retail stores to re-open for curbside pick-up; and perhaps most important to our region, allowing certain elective surgeries to resume as well.
“However, it is a shame he continues to reject other proposals to pursue a truly regional approach to dealing with this problem to not only keep people safe but prevent the ever-worsening economic situation facings families and small businesses. The one size fits all approach has been devastating to central Illinois and I hope as May approaches that the Governor will reconsider additional regional re-opening suggestions so that the cure to COVID-19 does not cause more harm than the virus itself.”
