Springfield’s Legacy Charity Golf Tournament Raises $80,000

On Monday, June 18, 150 golfers teed up for the 25th anniversary of the Springfield Golf Classic at Illini Country Club. The American Lung Association in Illinois event raised $80,000 to support lung disease research, and fund educational programs and advocacy efforts in Illinois.

The event included the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois Corporate Cup and Golf Classic Scramble as well as a culinary lunch, silent auction and raffle drawing. More than 140 local companies—including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, Ameren Illinois and U.S. Bank—supported the outing through sponsorship and silent auction donations.

“There are more than 1.5 million people in Illinois who suffer from lung disease. With the support of our local sponsors and golfers, the money raised by the Golf Classic will truly make a difference in the lives of the community members who suffer from lung disease,” said Monica Guerrant, special events manager for the Lung Association. “We enjoyed the sunny weather to raise awareness and play at one of the best golf courses in Illinois.”

In total, the Springfield Golf Classic at Illini Country Club resulted in:

• 148 registered golfers
• Over 30 local corporate sponsors
• More than 112 local companies sponsored holes and silent auction donations
• $80,000 raised
