Police ID Man Killed In Kane Co. Crash

The collision occurred on Route 64 near Elburn Thursday morning.

KANE COUNTY, IL – A 61-year-old Sycamore man was killed Thursday morning in a crash near Elburn. Michael Cessna, 61, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado east on Route 64 east of Prairie Street in unincorporated Virgil Township at about 9 a.m. when his car crossed the centerline and hit a semi truck head-on, according to a news release from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi was transported to Delnor Hospital for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Authorities said it was not immediately clear why the Chevrolet crossed the centerline. The collision shut Route 64 from Route 47 to Meredith Road for much of the day and remained closed as of 2 p.m.

Kane County Sheriff’s Detectives and members of the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating the crash.
No citations have been issued.
