Dead, Neglected Dogs Lead To Cruelty, Misdemeanor Charges For 2

Animal control officers found more than a dozen dogs at a home in unincorporated St. Charles Township, according to authorities.

ST. CHARLES, IL — Two Kane County residents were charged with animal cruelty after three dead dogs were discovered at their home in unincorporated St. Charles Township, according to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

Emily Chesterfield, 27, was charged with felony aggravated animal cruelty, and misdemeanor counts of cruel treatment to animals and violating animal owner’s duties, according to a news release. William Chesterfield faces two misdemeanor counts of failing to supply proper food and water, the release states.

Kane County deputies were called to the Chesterfields’ West Drive home at the end of May after receiving reports of animal hoarding, the release states. After not being able to find anyone at the home, deputies returned the next day, when they found the body of a small dog in a garbage bag outside the home, according to police.

Deputies located a second dog’s body outside and a third inside the home, the release states. Kane County Animal Control officers also removed nine living dogs from the home, police said. During a search of the home Thursday, deputies found another dog, as well as a bearded dragon, who were under William Chesterfield’s care, the release states.

Emily Chesterfield turned herself in Tuesday to Kane County deputies, and she was later released on $5,000 bond, police said Wednesday. She is due to next appear in court June 23.
