2 Seriously Injured In Crash Near St. Charles

The collision happened at about 3 p.m. at Randall Road and Red Gate Road in St. Charles Township.

KANE COUNTY, IL — Two St. Charles men were seriously injured in a crash Tuesday afternoon near St. Charles.

The collision happened at about 3 p.m. when a 2016 silver Toyota Sienna turned left onto eastbound Red Gate Road from southbound Randall Road in St. Charles Township, driving in front of a 2009 grey Chevrolet Malibu, which was northbound on Randall Road, according to a news release from the Kane County Sheriff's Office.

The Chevrolet veered off the roadway and hit a traffic light pole. The driver of the Chevrolet, Mason Koffenberger, 20, of St. Charles, and a passenger in the car, Kevin White, 19, of St. Charles, were taken to Delnor Hospital with serious injures, police said.

The driver of the Toyota, Frank Morales, 74, of Elgin, was treated and released at the scene. He received a citation for failure to yield, according to the news release.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. Police said Tuesday that it is currently unclear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
