5 Injured In St. Charles House Fire

The blaze broke out Wednesday evening in the basement of a home in the 200 block of Valley View Drive.

ST. CHARLES, IL — Five people were injured in a blaze at a home in St. Charles on Wednesday evening, fire officials said.

The fire broke out at 6:11 p.m. in the basement of a home in the 200 block of Valley View Drive. When fire crews arrived, they found moderate smoke damage on the first floor and a fire in a bedroom in the basement.

The blaze was brought under control within six minutes, according to a news release from the St. Charles Fire Protection District. Five people were taken to Delnor Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the blaze, according to fire officials.

No firefighters were injured in the blaze.

The blaze caused an estimated $7,500 in damage to the home and $2,500 to the contents inside. The residence is still habitable and was not destroyed by the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
