The Daily Herald reached out to Johnson last week and their message was forwarded to Kane County State's Attorney Jamie Mosser.

"By law and policy, we are not able to publicly disclose details related to personnel matters, including whether or not a person is on a leave of absence.," Mosser told the Daily Herald in an email response.

Hain, who was first elected sheriff in 2018 and is not seeking reelection this year, has not publicly discussed his status.
