Prosecutors allege Batterman used AI between Nov. 13, 2025, and May 17, 2026, to produce sexually explicit images and videos of minors under 18 and under 13. According to the state's attorney's office, the alleged AI-generated material included images created by altering photographs of real children as well as material generated entirely by artificial intelligence.

Batterman came to the attention of law enforcement through a CyberTip submitted to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, according to authorities.

The Kane County Child Exploitation Unit conducted a three-month investigation with assistance from the St. Charles Police Department. The unit is a collaboration between the Kane County State's Attorney's Office and Kane County Sheriff's Office that was established in 2022 to investigate child sexual exploitation.

Charges were filed Aug. 12, and Batterman was taken into custody by the Kane County Sheriff's Office Aug. 13.

Batterman appeared in court Aug. 14 for a pretrial detention hearing. Prosecutors argued he should remain in custody, and the court ordered him detained in the Kane County Jail while the case is pending, finding that no conditions of release could mitigate what the court determined was a real and present threat to the community.

Batterman's next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, in Courtroom 313 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
