ST. CHARLES, IL — Two employees were evaluated by emergency personnel after a fire broke out at a St. Charles grocery store Thursday morning, according to the St. Charles Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to the Jewel-Osco at 652 N. Kirk Road at about 9:47 a.m. Thursday after a fire was reported inside the building. The first fire crews arrived approximately 3½ minutes later and found smoke inside the building near the north end of the store.
An employee had reported the fire and was attempting to extinguish it when firefighters arrived, officials said.
Crews quickly brought the blaze under control, containing it to a commercial refrigeration unit before it could spread to the building's structure. The fire was declared under control at approximately 9:55 a.m., about eight minutes after the initial call.
Two employees received medical attention at the scene and signed medical releases after being evaluated. No firefighter injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
