Animal Rescue Group Takes In Dogs, Cats From Flooded Kentucky

St. Charles-based Starfish Animal Rescue is now seeking volunteers and donations as it expects more dogs and cats at its shelter soon.

ST. CHARLES, IL — A St. Charles-based animal rescue group is asking for the public's help as it expects to bring in several dogs and cats that have been rescued from animal shelters in eastern Kentucky where unprecedented flooding is occurring.

The dogs and cats will be cared for by Starfish Animal Rescue, and the rescue group is looking for volunteers to help walk dogs, clean crates and more.

Those interested in volunteering are asked to send a private message via Facebook to Kim Walsh.

"I’m sure everyone has seen the devastating floods in Kentucky. This is the area we rescue from. We managed to get our trucks down there and bring back dogs and cats," she wrote on the Starfish Animal Rescue Facebook page. "Our trucks are arriving around noon today. Is anyone available to help?"

Donations can also be dropped off at Walsh's house at 2604 Witchurch Lane in Naperville and will be brought to Starfish Animal Rescue Group on Thursday. Items the rescue group needs include: gallons of water, bottled water, non-perishable food, clean clothing, socks, undergarments, batteries, flashlights, candles, battery-operated lanterns, cleaning supplies, tethers, leathers, collars, dog kennels, disposable litter boxes, kitty litter, garbage bags, paper towels, rubber gloves, blankets, laundry soap, paper plates, paper cups and plastic cutlery.
