Volunteer English Tutors Needed

If you have an interest in helping an adult speak English and assimilate to life in our community, you will want to attend Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley’s free tutor training workshop. It will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays February 16, 18, 23, and 25 at the St. Charles Public Library.

The workshop will teach you how to tutor adults in English and will discuss the problems adults face when they know little about American customs. Once you complete training, you will be matched with one adult learner and teach one hour per week. Staff members will provide continuing support.

No prior teaching experience is necessary. You do not need to know a second language. According to learners, the most successful tutors are patient, good listeners and give practical information. Volunteers teach in public places such as local libraries.
