Beloved St. Charles East Teacher Dies After Battle with Cancer

Patrick A. "Pat" Taylor of Elburn died Feb. 23. He was 59.

The funeral service for a beloved St. Charles East High School social studies teacher will be held Monday.

Patrick A. “Pat” Taylor of Elburn died Feb. 23 a Delnor Community Hospital after a long battle with cancer. He was 59.

Pat is survived by his wife, Beverly Taylor of Elburn; four children: Aimee Taylor, Jim (Kristen) Taylor, Dan Taylor, Katie Taylor, Seven siblings: Joe (Audrey) Taylor, Mary Gineman, Martha Taylor (Lester Gillespie), Mike (Judy) Taylor, Rita (Gerry) Bambrick, Beth (Don) Lopotko, Bobi (Mike) Tierney; many nieces,  nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.

The service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Gall Catholic Church in Elburn. Father Morrissy Pastor of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Maple Park will officiate. The visitation was Sunday.

According to the Conley Funeral Home obituary, Pat was born Oct. 7, 1952 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Robert and Helen Taylor. He grew up there and graduated from La Porte High School. He attended St. Francis College in Fort Wayne, IN, and, later, earned a Master’s degree from Northern Illinois University.

Pat and Beverly were married in 1980. They had their first child, Aimee, five years later and would eventually have three more—Jim, Dan and Katie, according to the obit. They had previously lived in St. Charles before moving to Virgil and, eventually, settling in Elburn in 1994.

Prior to coming to East, Pat began teaching at East Aurora High School in 1980 and spent 13 years there, the obit states. He then moved to St. Charles and taught there until the end of January this year.

Pat, a sports fan at heart,  coached children in basketball and baseball. He also was well-known for his unique sense of humor.
