Board to Vote on Luxury Alcohol, Drug Treatment Center in Campton Township
The Kane County Zoning Board of Appeals is set to vote on conditions to allow the proposed plan to move forward to the County Board.

KANE COUNTY, IL - The Kane County Zoning Board of Appeals is set to vote next week on 46 different conditions that could make a luxury drug and alcohol treatment center proposed to be built in Campton Township one step closer to becoming a reality.
During a Feb. 9 hearing, a vote on whether to recommend Kane County Board approve those conditions was delayed until a Feb. 21 meeting when one board member was unable to attend because of an illness, the Kane County Chronicle reports.
Maxxam Partners LLC is seeking a conditional use permit to turn the former Glenwood School for Boys, 41W400 Silver Glen Road in Campton Township into a private pay alcohol and substance abuse treatment center.

Acting chairwoman Ann Michalsen amended one condition that states the facility, which is currently proposing 120 beds for patients, be built for 75 patients when it first opens with the possibility for Maxxam to come back to the Kane Co. Board to petition for more beds in the future, according to the Elgin Courier-News.
Michalsen said Maxaam Partners principal, Steve Marco, doesn't have any past experience running a drug treatment facility.
"I think it is a mistake to start at the largest number when you are in new territory," Michalsen said.

Other conditions up for approval include not allowing the facility to be an outpatient clinic dispensing methadone; requiring Maxxam to submit a security plan; to have information on what drugs will be used, stored and safeguarded; having a medical doctor on site at least 40 hours a week; and monitoring of wells to see if patients’ medications are present; and that wetlands be delineated and maintained, according to the Kane County Chronicle.
Not accepting patients who were detoxing and having drug-sniffing dogs check the facility are also being considered as conditions, the Elgin Courier-News reports.
The County Board will have the final say on whether Maxxam can move forward with its rehab center.
