3 Tips to Organize Your Closet
Professional Fashion Stylist's 3 Tips to Organizing Your Closet
It's a great time of year to 'cleanse your closet' with the change of seasons FINALLY arriving. As a Personal and Fashion Stylist I have been working with a lot of new clients recently who have decided it's time to make a change in their wardrobe, and during appointments I've had a lot of questions about tips to organize their closets. I've come up with a couple of my favorite little tricks that I use and have found useful for many clients.
1) Custom Clothing Dividers
I think these are SUCH a good idea! There are a number of 'stores' on Etsy who will customize the dividers to say whatever you want like: pants, tops, jackets, etc. It can be a great way to maintain organization in your closet. Many of us are guilty of having a hard time KEEPING our closets organized after we've gone through and sorted everything. These can help you stay a little more accountable. Here's a link to etsy with a number of different sellers: http://etsy.me/10TwGrz
2) Clear Shoe Storage Boxes
A number of my clients store their shoes in the boxes they get when purchasing the shoes, which is a great way to keep them clean but I find it's hard to find what shoes you're looking for this way. I've had some clients switch over to clear containers to store their shoes in, I find this is a much more functional way to store your shoes. You can SEE what's in the boxes and when getting them from the same company they all stack evenly. I found some great clear storage boxes at The Container Store, take a look here: http://bit.ly/101nO7W

3) Tie/Belt Organizer
I know this may not seem like an organizing 'trick' but I recommend using these types of organizing tools for more than just ties and belts. I suggest using them for jewelry, scarves, etc. They're great for scarves especially because you're able to hang them with your clothing. Sometimes I have people who hang their scarves on the back of a door or in a drawer somewhere and they tend to forget about them. This way if they're hanging with the rest of your clothes you're more likely to wear them. It's like the old saying "out of sight, out of mind" that is SO true for clothing. If you don't see something, you forget it's there and you don't wear it. Who wants to have clothing they spent money on, and not get use out of it? I know I don't!
