National Weavers Show Opens at Fine Line!
Opening Reception: Handweavers Guild of America – Small Expressions Fine Line Creative Arts Center, 6N158 Crane Rd., St. Charles, IL www.fineline.org
This amazing event, coming to Fine Line Creative Arts Center in St. Charles, is not to be missed! Creations by weaving artists from around the country will be exhibited inside Fine Line's Kavanagh Gallery June 1 - Sept. 7.
Each year, the Handweavers Guild of America chooses a different location in the United States for this show. Stunning colors, an array of textures, and an impressive range of creative talent will be on display at the opening reception for the Handweavers Guild of America’s Small Expressions exhibit, Saturday, June 1, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Fine Line Creative Arts Center in St. Charles is thrilled to host this annual juried exhibition, featuring 34 contemporary small-scale works by 31 artists from 17 states and 3 countries.
Laura Foster Nicholson, an accomplished artist, designer, and owner of LFN Textiles, juried this year’s show. The opening reception for this event includes a special gallery talk by Nicholson.
“The crafting demanded at such a reduced scale must be immaculate; larger work is more forgiving. The scale of threads is more crucial – the fineness of edges more exacting,” wrote Nicholson in her juror’s statement.
Featured weavers use a variety of traditional and non-traditional materials and techniques to form stunning works of art. Captivating pieces such as the “Basketmobile” by Peggy Wiedemann of Huntington Beach, CA., the eye-popping “Lines Threads Pebbles” by Brenda Backman of Story City, IA, and the unique “Winter Catch” created by Shannon Weber of Cottage Grove, OR, will be found throughout the exhibit.
