On Thursday, April 23, 2026, The Modern Domestic Woman (MDW) Cares will host “<a href="https://www.mdwcares.com/events-1/intro-to-sustainable-living-learning-how-to-cook-from-your-pantry" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Intro to Sustainable Living: Learning How to Cook From Your Pantry,</a>” at Chipko Market in St. Charles, Illinois, a workshop led by chef and sustainable living guide Katie McCall.
This event takes the overwhelm out of “going green” and replaces it with something far more approachable: small, meaningful shifts rooted in everyday life.
McCall’s approach centers on progress over perfection. Rather than asking you to overhaul your kitchen overnight, she walks you through the first steps of building a pantry that supports both your household and your values. Attendees will learn how to cook with what they already have, reduce food waste, and slowly transition to more sustainable staples, all while honoring the realities of busy families, budgets, and evolving routines.
At the heart of the experience is Chipko Market’s refill model, thoughtfully curated by owner Vandana Singh-Planis. At Chipko Market, sustainability becomes tangible. Customers are invited to bring their own clean jars to fill with pantry essentials, from grains to spices, or select from reusable containers and packaging available in-store. The concept is simple but powerful: take only what you need, waste less, and reconnect with the act of shopping as something intentional.
The workshop will also highlight a range of products available at Chipko, from artisanal coffee and golden honey to biodegradable household cleaners and natural personal care items, demonstrating how sustainability can extend beyond the kitchen into everyday living.
More than anything, this event is about removing the pressure that often comes with sustainable living. It’s about learning, experimenting, and building habits that feel good and last.&nbsp;

Born in New York City and later moved to Chicago, Frankie Hollywood Rodriguez has had a legendary status with House music long before it captivated the world. Frankie is a original member of The Hot Mix 5. The Chicago house music scene exploded as the Hot Mix 5 show and WBMX 102.7fm became the #1 Radio show in Chicago, by airing a new sound called House Music. Soon the Hot Mix 5 Radio show became known all over the world as their mixes were sent across America and abroad. Today their mixes are still being sold today on the likes of eBay and other outlets. Many of the Top DJs in the world have recognized The Hot Mix 5 as their mentors, as to setting the bar of what a DJ can be. The City of Chicago recognized Frankie and the Hot Mix 5’s contribution to the creation of House music and honored them in downtown Chicago on the corner of Michigan Avenue and Balbo Drive with a street called “Hot Mix 5 Way”. Frankie moved on to WBBM FM (B96) Chicago. He started there as a mix show DJ, then hosted the night show and eventually was the first Mixer to ever move from behind the turntables to hosting a major market morning show (Market #3). During his tenure at B96 Frankie wrote and produced one of the biggest records of the year (The FHR Project – Out Of Control). The FHR Project went on to tour with the Summer MTV Music Festival, Frankie also hosted Street Mix (MTV Europe Dance Music Video Channel) From there Frankie went on to become a Program director and host of the morning show on WBCD, Z105fm in Florida. The station went from the bottom ranks in the market to number one in the rankings in 1 years’ time. Frankie returned to Chicago and worked alongside legendary DJ’s Steve Dahl, Kevin Mathews &amp; Howard Stern at WCKG 105.9fm Chicago. As An Afternoon drive host. Since 2010 Frankie is currently known as one of the top Video Remix DJs on tour and opening for major recording artist Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Sting, Billy Joel, Foo Fighters, Zac Brown Band, Carrie Underwood, Paul McCartney, Florida Georgia Line, Luke Bryan, Kid Rock, Bebe Rexha and Maddie &amp; Tae.
