Changes Coming For Downtown St. Charles Parking

The length of time drivers can park at different lots and parking decks in the downtown area have been updated.

ST. CHARLES, IL -- The St. Charles City Council has adopted changes to the length of time drivers will be allowed to park in specific spaces in its downtown area. The changes are meant to address the "parking needs of both employees of downtown businesses and their patrons," St. Charles city administrator Mark Koenen said. Currently, the downtown has about 1,000 free parking spaces available to those "who visit our thriving downtown," Koenen said.

“We are fortunate to have a vibrant downtown that is home to businesses of all types, from offices and retail to entertainment venues,” said St. Charles City Administrator Mark Koenen.

  • Municipal Lot X, located by Francesca’s by the River and the Blue Goose Supermarket parking lot, currently allows timed parking for 8 hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. That allotted time will change to three hours of allowed parking from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday for all 30 spaces in the lot.
  • Municipal Lot Y, located on the 1st street side of the Blue Goose Supermarket, currently allows timed parking for 12 hours, 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. On Saturday and Sunday and holidays, drivers are allowed to park for 24 hours. There are 18 spaces in the lot. This lot will change to three hour parking between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday.
  • The lower level of Municipal lot Z, also known as the Susan L. Klinkhammer parking deck, currently allows timed parking for two hours during the 9 a.m.to 5 p.m. time frame on Monday through Friday. There are 58 spaces in the lot. Changes to parking in this parking deck affect the eight spaces closest to Illinois Street. Those spaces will be timed for 30 or 90 minutes for parking between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday. Posted signs will let drivers know the allotted time allowed in the spaces. The remaining 50 spaces in the parking deck will be timed for eight hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The upper level of Municipal Lot Z will remain timed at two hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The updates to parking are expected to be implemented in the coming weeks.
