City Aims To Revitalize Property Next To Arcada

The hope is the city will find a use for the space that could complement downtown St. Charles Arcada Theatre.

ST. CHARLES, IL -- The city is looking for ways to revitalize the former George's Sports Center, which is located next to the Arcada Theatre, with the hopes of preserving the property and finding a use for it that would complement the Arcada, city officials said. On Monday, alderman approved a $44,350 preliminary agreement with Schramm Construction to complete design and construction documents for the proposal. Those plans include interior improvements and an exterior facelift, according to the Daily Herald.

By next spring, the space at 107 to 109 E. Main Street, which was purchased by the city in 2012, could be ready for tenant build out, according to the article.

"The direction council has provided is to focus on (the George's building) and provide a plan that is flexible," Public Works Director Peter Suhr told the Daily Herald. "Obviously any use that would accommodate and accelerate the opportunities at the Arcada makes a lot of sense."
