St. Charles Plans To Raze Historic Building
The city approved a plan in 2017 to put luxury townhomes into the building in St. Charles. That plan has since expired.

ST. CHARLES, IL — A plan for 14 luxury townhomes in a historic building that formerly housed a factory in St. Charles have been nixed. The building, which has fallen into disrepair, will now need to be demolished, according to the Kane County Chronicle.
Community Development Director Russell Colby told alderman at the St. Charles City Council Government Operations Committee last month the property, located at the corner of South 13th and Indiana avenues, has sat in a "partially demolished state" for a long time and currently has several property maintenance code violations, according to the article.
The repairs needed to save the two-story building, which was originally built in 1904 for the Heinz Brothers Cut Glass Company, are too costly, city officials said.
