Cleaning Company Faces Lawsuit for Fire at St. Charles Restaurant

A lawsuit has been filed against a cleaning company following a fire that closed The Office Dining & Spirits in downtown St. Charles for over a month, the Kane County Chronicle reports.
The Office’s insurance company is suing Romeoville-based A+ Exhaust Hood and Duct Company Inc. for “ improper and negligent cleaning of grease build-up” after the company was hired do exhaust hood cleaning, repair and maintenance, according to the article.

The lawsuit claims “the grease and residue left in the exhaust hood[s] became the fuel load for the fire,” which ended up destroying the restaurant’s kitchen, causing smoke and water damage throughout the restaurant and closing the establishment for six weeks.
The lawsuit is seeking nearly $415,000 for damages, along with attorney fees, according to the Kane County Chronicle.
