`The proposal for the business, which would be located near downtown St. Charles, will now go before the city council.

ST. CHARLES, IL — After hearing from area business owners, the St. Charles City Council's Planning and Development Committee voted down plans for a doggy daycare facility near the city's downtown, the Kane County Chronicle reports. The K-9 Country Club application, submitted by John Karatheodore, called for the addition of a business that would offer daycare, grooming, training and dog walking services within a building at 305 N. 2nd Street.
The majority of alderman on the committee voted against the proposal to allow pet care facilities in the city's central business district as well as Karatheodore's application for a special use permit for the facility.
The city council still needs to vote on the measure. The St. Charles Plan Commission recommended approval of the pet care business. Business owners in the nearby Charleston Centerstrip mall have submitted objections regarding the proposal to the city, according to the Kane County Chronicle.
