New Culinary App Features Fox Valley Restaurants

In a growing field of increasingly enticing options, the me-n-u app seeks to help patrons answer the question "where should we go eat?"

Culinary arts are enjoying a renaissance in the Fox Valley, and an app called me-n-u is capturing every delicious development.

In a growing field of increasingly enticing options, the me-n-u app seeks to help patrons answer the question "where should we go eat?"

The app displays attractive photographs of dishes from local restaurants and invites the user to answer the question “does this look good” by touching the “yes” or “no” button. The photos are anonymous to solicit unbiased gut reactions. The user can then touch “get recommended restaurants” and the app provides them with a recommendation based on their likes.

“It’s a fun way for people to decide where to go eat,” said Scott Corbin de Baschemin, owner of #THEJANKGUITARSTORE.

The app launched on June 12 with the participation of Restaurant Juliette, The Finery and The Grandstander. Already it has expanded to include 19 restaurants in St. Charles, Batavia and Geneva. including Abby's Breakfast & Lunch which was recently chosen as one of the “10 Best Lunch Spots in Illinois” by American Towns Media. Additional restaurants are being added weekly.

The app developed by #THEJANKGUITARSTORE was built as a solution when the Downtown Partnership sought to highlight the area’s restaurant quality as a local attraction.

While it may seem curious for a business specializing in guitars to be launching a food app, #THEJANKGUITARSTORE has played a strategic part in cultivating local arts and culture since its doors opened in 2015. "Very simply, food is an art," said #THEJANKGUITARSTORE board member Steve Douglas, "and #THEJANKGUITARSTORE is an engine for local arts in all forms."

More than 2,400 users are reportedly using the app to make decisions about where to eat in the Tri-Cities. #THEJANKGUITARSTORE plans to expand the technology headquartered in St. Charles to include all of Chicagoland and select cities across the US by 2020. A second me-n-u app is currently in development for Saint-Malo, France (future site of the European flagship location of #THEJANKGUITARSTORE) which will launch with participation of restaurants Bistro Autour du Beurre, L'Absinthe, Le Chalut and Le Cambusier.
