Excessive Speed a Factor In Motorcycle Fatality: Police
The St. Charles crash happened last weekend. Gustavo Sanchez Pineda was killed in the crash. His funeral is set for Saturday.
ST. CHARLES, IL — A 49-year-old man killed in a motorcycle crash last weekend was traveling at an excessive speed at the time of the collision, St. Charles Deputy Police Chief Erik Mahan told the Kane County Chronicle. The crash happened in the 2500 block of East Main Street in St. Charles at 5:44 p.m. June 8 when 2002 Suzuki motorcycle, driven by Gustavo Sanchez Pineda, traveling west on East Main Street hit a vehicle that was stopped and waiting to make a left turn, according to a news release from the St. Charles Poluce Department.
The driver was ejected from his motorcycle. The vehicle continued traveling east into the westbound lanes and hit a third vehicle.
"I’m not certain that we will be able to determine exactly what speed he was traveling, but we do have some evidence from which we are able to reasonably infer that he was traveling at an excessive speed," St. Charles Deputy Police Chief Erik Mahan told the Kane County Chronicle in an e-mail response.
