Family Displaced Following House Fire in St. Charles

The blaze last week caused $100,000 in damage to the home.

A family has been displaced following a fire last week in St. Charles.

Firefighters were called to the blaze at 419 S. 14th St. at 3:12 p.m. on Thursday after a resident of the home returned from an errand to discover the fire, according to a city of St. Charles press release. When firefighters arrived, they found the fire in the basement of the home. The blaze was moving up the stairwell and into the first and second floors.

The resident who found the fire was treated at the scene but refused any treatment or to be transported to a hospital. No other injuries were reported, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire was deemed accidental and remains under investigation. The blaze caused $100,000 in damage and the home is currently uninhabitable. The residents of the home planned to stay with family members following the blaze, fire officials said.

The St. Charles Fire Department was assisted by the Geneva, Batavia, South Elgin and Elburn, and Fermi Lab Fire Departments who were either at the fire scene or covered calls while St. Charles units were at the fire.
