Fire Officials Warn Of Dangers Of 'Outlet Challenge'

The St. Charles Fire Department is asking residents to talk to their children about the dangers of the challenge.

ST. CHARLES, IL — The St. Charles Fire Department is urging parents to talk to their children about the dangers of the "outlet challenge," which has recently gone viral on the TikTok social media app. In a Facebook post this past week, fire officials explained that the challenge involves inserting a phone charger partly into an outlet and then touching a coin to the exposed prongs to create a spark.

"The result can cause electrical system damage, fire, and potentially serious injuries," according to the Facebook post.

Parents are urged to look for scorched outlets in their homes and to talk to their children to explain the dangers behind the "outlet challenge."
