Fox Valley Marathon To Impact St. Charles Traffic

The Fox Valley Marathon will be held Sunday.

The Fox Valley Marathon will be held Sunday, September 20, 2015, from 7:00 a.m until approximately 2 p.m.

The Marathon will begin in St. Charles on 1st Street near Illinois Street. The run continues south to Aurora before returning to the finish line back in St. Charles on the Illinois Street bridge.

Several roadways in St. Charles will be affected by the Marathon:

  • 1st Street between Illinois Street and Indiana Street will be closed beginning Saturday, September 19th at 5 a.m. for set up.
  • Both the Prairie Street and Illinois Street bridges will be closed during the entire event on Sunday. Motorists are advised to use either the Main Street (Rt. 64) bridge or the Red Gate bridge.
  • The race begins at 7 a.m. Sunday morning traveling south on 1st Street to Geneva Rd. (Rt. 31). Geneva Rd will be reduced to one lane and then detoured to Anderson Blvd. in Geneva.
  • As the runners return to St. Charles, now on the east side of the river, traffic on Riverside Avenue (Rt. 25) will be reduced to one lane between Moore Ave. and S. 5th Avenue.

Police and Emergency Management Personnel will be posistioned at key locations to assist with traffic direction. Motorists are advised to expect delays when traveling throughout the city. Police remind drivers to watch for runners, spectators and emergency responders assisting with the event.

In addition, the Fox Valley Kids Marathon will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 19. The Prairie Street Bridge will be temporarily closed at the start of that event, however the closure is expected to be less than 30 minutes.
