The friend of a single mother whose car was stolen and then destroyed by a fire this past week is raising funds to help her friend buy a new car.
The woman’s 2005 Honda Civic was stolen in St. Charles and was found on fire at 5:56 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Cambridge and Cumberland Green drives, the Kane County Chronicle reports. The car was completely destroyed in the blaze.

The owner of the car is a single mother, according to Penny Blaine, a friend of the mother. Blaine set up a GoFundMe page to help the mom pay for the new car. As of Tuesday morning, nearly $500 has been raised.
“She is an amazing single mom and did not have a car payment,” Blaine wrote. “Now due to someone’s reckless behavior she will have to come up with money to buy a new/used car.”

Blaine added that her friend’s car was a 2005 with a lot of miles and the insurance money she will receive for it will be minimal.
St. Charles police are investigating the car fire.
“This is the second stolen car from that area within the last month,” St. Charles Deputy Police Chief David Kintz told the Kane County Chronicle.
