Gas Station Cited for Selling Tobacco to Minor During Compliance Checks
The St. Charles Police Department conducted compliance checks at 33 businesses on May 18.

ST. CHARLES, IL - One local gas station has been cited for selling tobacco to a minor following recent compliance inspections by the St. Charles Police Department.
Of the 33 businesses inspected, Circle K Shell Gas Station, at 307 W. Main St., was the only business to have an employee sell tobacco to a minor during the May 18 compliance checks, according to a St. Charles Police Department press release. The employee was cited for unlawful sale of tobacco to a minor and was issued an order to appear in court on June 9.
In addition, the business was cited for a violation of the business license in front of the Local Liquor Control Commission, according to the news release.

Police used two 16-year-old confidential sources -- one male and one female -- to conduct the compliance checks.
The May 18 inspection was the final of three inspections to be conducted during the 2015/2016 tobacco grant period.

A total of 98 inspections have been completed for this grant period to date, which resulted in two unlawful sales of tobacco to a minor, which was a 98 percent compliance rate. During the same period last year, businesses in St. Charles had an 85 percent compliance rate.
