Geneva's Popular Steeple Walk Returns

A variety of seasonal music December 7th at four Geneva churches.

As part of the ever-popular holiday weekend in Geneva that begins each year’s Christmas Season, the Steeple Walk returns Sunday afternoon December 7, from 2:00 to 4:30pm. Presented for the sixth time by the Geneva Cultural Arts Commission and sponsored this year by Circa, it features a variety of seasonal music concerts at four Geneva churches, all within easy walking distance.The Anima Youth Chorus of Glen Ellyn will be heard at the United Methodist Church, Second and Hamilton Streets. A renowned youth choral organization, Anima has performed locally, nationally and internationally. Recent appearances have been with the Lyric Opera, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the St. Charles Singers, and internationally in Tallinn, Riga and St. Petersburg.The Orion Ensemble, recognized for twenty years as one of Chicago’s finest chamber music groups, will appear at the Geneva Lutheran Church on South Third Street. Their five superb musicians have performed throughout North America, Europe and Asia as an ensemble and individually in solo, orchestral and other chamber music roles.Performing at the Unitarian Universalist Society on Second Street will be Vox Gloria, a distinguished “a cappella” women’s choir from the Geneva United Methodist Church. For many years, led by Jan Unger-Kroc, they have presented a concert for the annual GUMC Christmas Season Women’s Service.Opposite on Second Street, the First Church of Christ, Scientist will host a duet comprised of guitarist Quentin Dover and pianist Rosemary Schroeder. Mr. Dover, a graduate of DeKalb’s NIU, specializes in classical guitar and has studied with Fareed Haque. Ms. Schroeder is an accomplished pianist who has performed widely in the U.S., internationally in Shanghai, Osaka and Vladivostok, and recently in Puerto Rico, Barbados and other Caribbean cities.Two audience groups attend twenty-minute concerts played simultaneously at the Methodist and Lutheran churches, then change places. They next move to the last performances in the Unitarian and Christian Science churches, opposite each other on Second Street. Geneva Councilman Chuck Brown and his wife Mary Kay lead the groups.Tickets cost $12 and are available at the four churches, at the Geneva Chamber of Commerce and Circa, both on Third Street, and through PayPal. Sales begin November 3.The Steeple Walk Committee is comprised of Gail Tattersfield, Linda Kopec, Amy Steenson, Kent Gallagher, and Linda Valentine.
