Grant Pays for Pottawatomie Park Upgrades

The St. Charles Park District received a $248,000 matching grant through the state's Open Space Land Acquisition and Development program.

ST. CHARLES, IL -- Two grants received by the St. Charles Park District will help fund an extension of the Great Western Trail and several improvements at Pottawatomie Park. A $248,000 matching grant through the state’s Open Space Land Acquisition and Development program will pay for a new playground at the village's flagship park, replacing its 26-year-old playground; a sensory garden; a third pavillion; and updated lighting at the park’s tennis courts, park district officials told the Daily Herald. That project is set to get underway in the fall of 2020 and wrap up by the end of that year.

The park district also received a $473,860 Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund matching grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to pay to acquire property owned by the Union Pacific Railroad with plans to extend the Great Western Trail from Randall Road to the Fox River, according to the news report
