Heritage Harbor Ottawa Resort Offers "Perfect Little House" Vacation Cottages for Immediate Delivery
Located in Ottawa, Ill., just 90 minutes southwest of Chicago

With warm weather on the horizon, homeowners contemplating purchasing a vacation home in time to enjoy it this spring and summer can choose from two recently completed cottage residences at Heritage Harbor Ottawa Resort, a marina resort community on the Illinois River within Starved Rock Country.
Located in Ottawa, Ill., just 90 minutes southwest of Chicago, Heritage Harbor Ottawa is a 142-acre master-planned development of single-family homes, townhomes, vacation cottages, carriage homes and condos, centered on a 32-acre harbor and full-service marina. With its offering of boating amenities, waterfront living, and nearby recreational opportunities such as Starved Rock State Park and the I&M Canal Trail, the community offers a resort lifestyle for those seeking a vacation, retirement or full-time residence in this region.
“This is a great time to buy an immediate-delivery vacation cottage at Heritage Harbor, since our boating season begins pretty early in Ottawa,” said Tammy Barry. “By purchasing a home they can move into and start using right away, buyers will be settled in and ready to take full advantage of the boating amenities at Heritage Harbor once our marina and harbor open April 1. Plus, buyers will be able to enjoy all the wonderful outdoor recreational opportunities this region offers during the spring, from hiking and biking to fishing and eagle watching.”

Barry noted the two new immediate-delivery vacation cottages are a unique offering at Heritage Harbor, featuring designs from nationally-renowned architects Peter Brachvogel and Stella Carosso of Bainbridge Island, Wash.-based Perfect Little House Company, which offers smaller home designs infused with quality and character.
“We love the philosophy behind the Perfect Little House plans – that you can have everything you need in a smaller, but thoughtfully designed home,” said Barry. “That smart design and smaller scale are what make these homes ideal as a part-time or vacation residence.”

Barry added that both homes feature cottage-style exterior architecture, with craftsman-inspired touches, dormered windows, deep overhangs and wide front porches. “The exteriors are absolutely charming, which just adds to the overall curb appeal at Heritage Harbor,” she said.
Priced at $284,500, the smaller of the two immediate-delivery cottages measures 950 square feet and has two bedrooms and 1½ baths. The first floor features combined living, dining and entertaining space open to the kitchen, which has direct access to a dining porch on the side of the home. Hardwood floors run throughout the first floor, and the kitchen is finished with gray-toned cabinetry, white granite countertops and stainless steel appliances.
The second cottage, priced at $299,900, measures 1,250 square feet and has two bedrooms and two baths. It features an inverted floor plan with vaulted second-floor living space that includes expanses of windows, distressed hardwood floors and a walk-out deck offering expansive views of the nearby Illinois River. Also located on the second floor, the home’s gourmet kitchen features white cottage-style cabinetry with bead board detail, granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. The home’s first floor features two bedrooms and a bath.
Both cottages back up to the Pelican’s Landing swimming pool on Heritage Harbor’s West Peninsula, and have easy access to community amenities, including the Heritage Harbor marina, on-site restaurant, walking path, and kayak and paddle board rentals.
“Not only will homeowners appreciate being in such proximity to the pool, but this location also adds to the appeal of these homes as vacation rental properties,” said Barry. “For buyers who plan to take advantage of our liberal rental policies and place the home in our on-site rental management program when not using it themselves, these properties have a poolside getaway feel that will really stand out to renters looking for a place to enjoy for a short stay.”
Barry added that the cottages are low-maintenance homes, adding to their convenience as a part-time residence. “Our homeowners want to spend their time at Heritage Harbor relaxing and enjoying the community’s resort lifestyle, not worrying about yard work and other upkeep and maintenance that can come with owning a second home,” she said. “As a maintenance-free community, Heritage Harbor takes care of any landscaping work for residents, plus these homes all feature very durable exterior materials so concerns about regular upkeep are minimal.”
Heritage Harbor Ottawa features a full-service marina that can accommodate up to 450 wet slips. Open April 1 through October 31, the marina is equipped with a dual boat launch area, single-load floating docks, WiFi, fresh water, cable service, a full-service fuel dock, pump-out services, and car and trailer parking. Quest Water Sports’ Quest Express boating membership is available on-site, giving participants access to a fleet of boating equipment for an annual fee.
