The original version of Reflections, written by freelance writer and volunteer historian Ruth Seen Pearson, was released as part of a celebration of America’s bicentennial in 1976. The book has been updated and annotated by former Museum Vice President and Historic Preservation Commissioner Steve Gibson.
The new edition documents more recent developments in St. Charles history, complete with new photographs from the Museum’s collection and footnotes from Editor Steve Gibson, as well as forewords written by Mayor Ray Rogina and Museum staff members.

“It's been my honor to serve in a couple of capacities as it relates to the history of St. Charles,” said Editor Steve Gibson. “In editing this book, I've had the chance to deepen and widen my own knowledge of St. Charles history, and I hope through the publication of this book, I'll get a chance to impact that history into the future.”
“Reflections has been such a key piece of St. Charles history, and the book has been a valuable tool for historical researchers looking to learn more about the city,” said Museum Executive Director Alison Costanzo. “As St. Charles celebrated its 185th anniversary in 2019, we felt it was only fitting to release an updated version as we enter the ‘next chapter’ of our community’s story.”
The book is available in both paperback and digital formats on Amazon and Kindle, with a limited number to be available for purchase in the Museum’s Curious Fox Gift Shop, located at 215 E. Main St. in St. Charles.
