Holiday Lights Recycling Program Gets Underway In St. Charles
Residents can recycle their unwanted holiday lights at various locations in town.

ST. CHARLES, IL —Do you have strings of holiday lights that don’t work or are hopelessly tangled up?
Instead of throwing the lights out and allowing the unwanted Christmas decorations to sit in a landfill for years to come, city officials in St. Charles are encouraging residents to recycle their lights.
From now until Jan. 13, St. Charles residents and businesses can drop off holiday lights and extension cords at various locations in town to be recycled, according to the city of St. Charles.

Here is a look at the types of lights that are accepted as part of the recycling program:
- Traditional Holiday Lights
- LED Holiday Lights
- Italian Mini Holiday Lights
- Rope Lights
- Extension Cords

- Pre-lit garland, wreaths, or trees
- Lighted lawn decorations or ornaments
You can drop the lights off at the following locations during regular operating hours, unless listed otherwise. Be sure to check the website for the location for regular business hours.
St. Charles Public Works Department, 1405 S. 7th Avenue.: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday through Friday
St. Charles Municipal Building Lobby, 2 E. Main Street
St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. 6th Avenue
Hickory Knolls Discovery Center, 3795 Campton Hills Road, St. Charles
Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Avenue, St. Charles
