Improvements to Route 31, Silver Glen Road Intersection Get Underway

Temporary lane closures are expected starting Tuesday as Illinois Department of Transportation crews begin improvements to the intersection of Illinois 31 at Silver Glen Road in South Elgin, according to an IDOT news release.

The construction project will include resurfacing and widening of the roadway, storm sewer construction and a new traffic signal. The improvements will add a left turn lane from northbound Illinois 31 to Silver Glen Road and a right turn lane from southbound Illinois 31 to Silver Glen Road, according to IDOT. The project is expected to be completed in summer 2016.

Intermittent lane closures will take place in both directions of Illinois 31 at Silver Glen Road, IDOT officials said.

Motorists can expect delays and should seek alternate routes. IDOT officials are also reminding drivers to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and to be on the alert for workers and equipment.
