ST. CHARLES, IL — City officials are looking into awarding $45,000 in grant funds to Eden on the River in St. Charles to help pay to replace a section of its current patio with a screened-in area, according to the Daily Herald. The planning and development committee approved the funding on Monday and the request from the Mediterranean restaurant, 1 Illinois Street, will now head to the city council for final approval.

The local restaurant is hoping the renovations, which would include three garage doors that open to an outdoor eating area and should be complete by this spring, will help draw more people in. And that would also benefit the city, Russell Colby, the city's assistant community and economic development director, told the newspaper.

"From the city's standpoint, they're bringing more activity onto the riverfront and making better utilization of that property," he said. "That's in our interest."
